Dr. John Hamil
Dr. John Hamil was born in Rolla Missouri on August 11, 1943. He attended Vanderbilt University from 1961-1963, North Carolina State University from 1963-1964 graduating with a BS in Zoology with Honors and Oklahoma State University from 1964-1968 with a BS in Pre-veterinary Science and D.V.M. From 1967-1971 he was in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps stationed in Ft. Gulick CZ Panama. Out of the military he worked as an associate at Dover Shores Veterinary Hospital ,Anabrook Animal Hospital and purchased Canyon Animal Hospital in 1977. Dr. Hamil has been a member of many organizations including: AVMA, CVMA, SCVMA, AAHA, American Bloodhound Club, American Greyhound Club, Laguna Canyon Property Owners Association, Laguna Greenbelt, California Council of Companion Animal Advocates, Link, ASPCA Western Regional Advisory Board, National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy, American Association of Human Animal Bond Veterinarians, Society for Theriogenology and the Association for Veterinary Family Practice. He has also advised and provided veterinary support for South Orange County Emergency Animal Clinic, South Orange County Regional Occupational Program, Orange County Animal Shelter Advisory Board, Friends of the Sea Lion Marine Mammal Center Rehabilitation Center, Kern River Wildlife Sanctuary, Bluebell Foundation for Cats, University of California Irvine Animal Welfare Committee, Bloodhounds West Breed Rescue Committee and Greyhound Pets of America. Dr Hamil has won many awards including AAHA Western Regional Practitioner of the Year 1999, SCVMA H. Don Mahan Memorial Award 2001, Hill’s Animal Welfare and Humane Ethics Award 2002, American Bloodhound Club Meritorious Service Award 2003, and Oklahoma State University Veterinary School- Distinguished Alumni Award 2004. He currently has 2 published books: Your Aging Cat and Hands on Dog Care. Currently Dr. Hamil lives in Laguna Beach with his wife Susan. He has 3 children and 3 grandchildren, a pug named “Xena”, a french bulldog named “Bing” and several bloodhounds.
Dr. G
Dr. “G” was born in Chicago Illinois on November 2, 1972. He was a full scholarship swimmer from 1990-1995, attended University of North Carolina Wilmington graduating with a BS in Chemistry with honors, a minor in math and Spanish, and University of Illinois Veterinary School graduating with a DVM in 2000. During school he worked at the ASPCA Urbana Champaign from 1995-1997 and the University of Illinois Toxicology Lab from 1995-2000. Out of veterinary school Dr. G. worked at Dover Shores Veterinary Hospital from 1999-2001, and became an associate veterinarian at Canyon Animal Hospital in 2001. In 2007 Dr. G. became co-owner of Canyon Animal Hospital. Dr. G. is a member of several organizations including AVMA, CVMA, SCVMA, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier National Health Committee, Kerry Blue Terrier National Health Committee and Great Western Terrier Dog Show Head Veterinarian from 2002 to present. He has also provided veterinary support for Bluebell Foundation for Cats, Laguna Beach Animal Shelter, Newport Beach Animal Shelter, Bloodhounds West Breed Rescue, Greyhound Pets of America, West Highland Terrier Rescue, Beagle Rescue and Jack Bradshaw dog show superintendents. Currently Dr. G. lives in Newport Heights with his wife Amy and their 3 daughters. He has 4 canine friends, “Bear”, “Murphy”, “Lily”, “Sophie” and an abundance of cats, birds, etc.
Dr. Lauren Brower
Dr. Lauren Brower is a born and raised native of Laguna Beach. After graduation from Laguna Beach High School she attended the University of San Diego, and during her sophomore year of college joined the Canyon Animal Hospital team as a veterinary technician. As an undergraduate she rode on the university's varsity equestrian team. After her third year of studying in San Diego she made the move across the country to Columbus, Ohio where she attended The Ohio State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. While attending veterinary school she was initiated into the veterinary honors society, Phi Zeta and was awarded the Senior Pfizer Award for Small Animal Clinical Proficiency. After graduation she anxiously returned to sunny southern California to start her career as an associate at Canyon Animal Hospital. She has continued to broaden her education with acupuncture training and is now a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist. Her integrative approach, incorporating the best conventional medicine with alternative treatments allows for a more holistic approach to your pet. In her spare time Dr. Brower like riding her horse Violet, and playing with Stella her long-haired chihuahua. She also has three cats (Maverick, Hidey and Thor) and 7 chickens (Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia, Roosevelt, Louise, Maude and Mable)
